Petrol Queues Return To Abuja

Long queues have returned to filling stations causing gridlock in areas that are affected.
some filling stations were not dispensing as of Tuesday morning, a few others dispensing were besieged by motorists.

Meanwhile black marketers have taken to the streets selling at double the official price of N151.


But the spokesperson for Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Kennie Obateru said there was no need for panic buying, insisting that “NNPC has over 2 billion litres of premium motor spirit in stock to guarantee steady supply and at least 60 -day-product supply sufficiency.”

ThisNigeria recalls that the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) had warned of a looming petroleum scarcity in the country, following attacks on fuel tankers and the disruption of depot operations across the country by hoodlums who had hijacked the #EndSARS protests.

This disclosure was made by the Chairman of IPMAN in Rivers State, Dr. Joseph Obele, while speaking on a live radio program in Port Harcourt on Friday, October 23, 2020.

Obele disclosed that about 10 petroleum tankers belonging to its members were attacked and destroyed across the country by these hoodlums during the protests, although he noted that there had been no fatalities.

ThisNigeria reports fuel queues stretching from Kubwa, Area 1 and into the heart of town, where queues have over taken the once peaceful stations. The situation has led to long queues which have also affected the free flow of traffic in the city.

On Herbert Macaulay Way, Central Business District, a long queue was seen at Conoil filling station that was dispensing while Total filling station on the same road was not dispensing as at press time. However, motorists were already on queue, anticipating that the fuel attendants could start dispensing any time.
