The Nigerian Army (NA) said troops of 2 Battalion, killed three terrorists in a fierce firefight, while others escaped in disarray.
Director Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement, said the troops killed the terrorists during an ambush operation at Udowa area in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State, acting on actionable intelligence.
Gen. Nwachukwu also expressed sadness as one soldier paid the supreme price during the encounter.
Also, a notorious Boko Haram terrorist Commander, identified as Bulama Bukar, Gen. Nwachukwu said, surrendered to troops of 5 Brigade in Gubio, in the North East theatre of operations.

According to him, the surrendered terrorist was the commander of the BHT Camp Tapkin Chad at Gilima village in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.
Noting that troops have continued to sustain the aggressive posture of ongoing operations to rid the nation of terrorism, insurgency, and sundry crimes across the country, the spokesperson disclosed that the soldiers recovered a bandolier containing 111 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, one AK 47 magazine, two motorcycles, one set of high-frequency communication radio and two mobile phones, from the fleeing insurgents.

A preliminary investigation, Nwachukwu said, revealed that the suspect was on a mission to deliver ammunition to a bandit leader named Gishiri.
The vigilant troops, he said, recovered a bag containing 224 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one mobile phone, and the sum of four thousand naira only from the courier, noting that the suspect is currently in custody undergoing further investigations.
