The University of Calabar has appointed Dr. Ukam Ivi Ngwu as Acting Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.
A statement from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, signed by Offiong Efanga Offiong, said the appointment takes effect from January 1, 2026, and will run for an initial period of two years, ending December 31, 2027.
According to the statement, Ngwu is expected to “provide effective academic and administrative leadership that will enhance productivity, discipline, and excellence within the department.”
The Vice-Chancellor further stressed the administration’s performance-driven stance, noting that “management will not hesitate to apply appropriate sanctions on any Head of Department who fails to deliver expected results within approved timelines or who breaches established university regulations.”
The university expressed confidence that the new Acting Head would “bring commitment, professionalism, and renewed vigour to the administration of the department.”
