The Vatican has given its approval for same-sex couples with specific limitations.
The new document, approved by the Pope, recognized the possibility of blessings for couples in irregular situations and for couples of the same sex.
However, the Vatican emphasized that these blessings are not intended to legitimize same-sex marriage or unions.
The church’s stance on marriage remains unchanged, it is considered a sacred sacrament between a man and a woman, primarily for the purpose of procreation.
To avoid any confusion or misinterpretations, the document stipulates that blessings for same-sex couples must be conducted within specific parameters.
“One should not prevent or prohibit the Church’s closeness to people in every situation in which they might seek God’s help through a simple blessing.
“This blessing should never be imparted in concurrence with the ceremonies of a civil union, and not even in connection with them,” it said.
