Why FG budgets additional N700bn for arms of military, others – Lawan

By Andy Asemota
The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Wednesday, revealed that the request of a supplementary budget of over N700 billion from the executive to arm security agencies and the Armed Forces gives credence to the position that Nigeria is in an abnormal situation.

Lawan, in his concluding remarks to the Point of Order raised by the former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu (Enugu West), over the violence and insecurity in his constituency and parts of the South East, Lawan said the security challenges confronting across Nigeria are not insurmountable.

While commiserating with the families and victims of violence and insecurity, the Senate President noted:
“Our security agencies and Armed Forces are doing their best and what we need to do is to ensure that citizens participate to ensure security in the country.”

He added: “If you see something, say something. And our police and others who are supposed to provide security should continue to play that role. We will give them the kind of support that they need to perform better and optimally. I believe this is a phase in the life of this country and we are going to have an improved situation by the grace of God.”
