By Ben Adoga, with agency report

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike, has commended FCT residents for supporting the execution of projects in their communities.

Wike gave a commendation in Abuja yesterday when he inspected some ongoing projects in the capital city.

The Minister also assured Abuja natives and residents affected by demolition for road construction of full compensation.

One of the projects inspected is the construction of the N16 arterial road (Shehu Shagari Way) from NICON Junction through the Gishiri community to N20 (Wole Soyinka Way).

The construction of Judges Quarters, the road network in Katampe, and Obafemi Awolowo Way from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III were also inspected.

The Minister explained that work was going uninterrupted due to the overwhelming support of affected communities.

“We thank the community members for their support; this is what we expect from them, and I am pleased with what I see.

Speaking on compensating residents affected by the project, Wike said that the Resettlement Department had paid the affected residents in Wasa and Life Camp.

The Minister, who also responded to the natives’ protest, called the youths and told them that the payment process was on and that all those affected would be fully compensated.

“I have heard what you said. I have instructed the concerned department to ensure this (compensation) is sorted out.”

After briefing the media in Gishiri, some youths told the Minister they had not received compensation for demolished homes.

Earlier, the acting Executive Secretary of FCDA, Richard Yunana, told the Minister that some buildings would go for the road to move forward. Still, that biometric capture was going on in Gishiri village to pay their compensation.
