As the date for official campaign, ahead of the 2023 general elections draws nearer, the umbrella body of the Igbo nation – Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide has cautioned political parties and political actors against ethnic politics.
Ohanaeze also said, though it is the turn of the south to produce the next president after Buhari, the electorates should vote on the basis of competence and not ethnicity and region so as to save the country from multiple challenges threatening her existence.
Secretary General of
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro gave this warning in a statement.
“We must respect rotational presidency between North and South as enshrined in our consciousness to engender balance equity, inclusiveness, national peace, and stability. Any party, that contrast the above view, does not mean well for Nigeria,” Ohaneze said.
Nigeria’s nonstop high margin for error, by Prince Charles Dickson
The Ohaneze Scribe said, attempts by the opposition party to ride on ethnicity and religion to get power will plunge Nigeria into abyss.
He said the level of filth and rots exposed by the crisis rocking PDP, shows that Atiku’s desperation is not healthy for the country.
He added that Northern presidency has left the region in total neglect,
poverty and insecurity.
Mazi Isiguzoro said, “Atiku and PDP’s hope of cruising to power with the cards of ethnicity and religion have been dashed based on the fact that President Buhari’s scorecard as a northerner didn’t favor the North but rather worsened the security threats in the area. North should be free from the illusion of ethnicity and break the spells of deceit which PDP and Atiku are using ahead of 2023 election. It is only a southern Presidency that will unify the country and end the security threats in Nigeria, and not Atiku Abubakar’.
He concluded that Nigerians are only enthusiastic about how to dethrone incompetence in governance with a strong, competent, and healthy President in 2023.
