Makinde’s gesture, big challenge – 3SC FC helmsman

Mr Rasheed Balogun, the General Manager, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Ibadan, has described Gov. Seyi Makinde’s gesture to the club as a big challenge to the team.

This is contained in a statement signed by Tosin Omojola, the club’s Media Officer, and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Ibadan.

The governor had on assumption of office, promised to give maximum support to the state-owned club, 3SC, as well as Crown Football Club of Ogbomoso.

Both clubs were on relegation until recently when 3SC, popularly known as Oluyole Warriors, returned to the elite Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The governor had, apart from the financial support, donated brand new buses to the clubs.

The 3SC boss said the team was enjoying full support from the governor since he assumed office.

Balogun said the governor had further demonstrated his unflinching support to the club by presenting two brand new buses to the team.

He appreciated the governor for returning the team to the elite league, saying he had by his actions challenged the club, especially with the gifts and persistent words of encouragement.

“I am so delighted with what the governor did. I must confess, he has thrown a big challenge to the management and the players.

“All he deserves from us is to perform excellently well in the 2021/22 NPFL season.

“Yoruba people will say, `when you praise somebody for doing well, he will strive to do more.’ His Excellency appreciated the job we did, it is our turn to deliver what he wants.

“The governor said we should go ahead and beat every team in the league.

“He does not even want to see us hovering in the middle of the table but to be at the top,” he said.

Balogun added that the club would not disappoint the government, the governor, good people of Oyo State, supporters and the entire teeming fans of the club.

“It is a task that must be done and with the unwavering support we have been enjoying from the governor.

“The governor has also promised to continue supporting us. So, we have no excuse but to deliver again”, Balogun said.

On the new buses, he expressed no surprise about the governor’s gesture, saying he had always known him to be a philanthropist.

“It is only those who don’t know Gov. Seyi Makinde that will be surprised with what he did.

“For me and my management team, players and the entire staff, we are not surprised.

“This is a man who can do anything to ensure the club get the desired result.

“He is a man who makes promises and keeps them. So for me personally, I am not surprised but further encouraged,” he said.
