An Ilorin-based legal practitioner, Mr. Dayo Babatunde, has said that child discipline is a collective responsibility and should not be left for the mother alone.
Babatunde told newsmen in Ilorin on Friday that a child with good discipline would portend a better future for the country.
He warned that children who lacked home training were bound to fail in life and would constitute a nuisance to society.
He said that some parents ignored their children’s moral training not minding the consequences.
“Training a child is a shared responsibility and not necessarily for the mother alone. It is both parents that should check and discipline their children.
“Stop claiming too busy to discipline your children when they go wrong.
“The father and mother must accept the responsibility to be a watchdog on their children.
“The children are closer to the mother than the father from birth.
“It however doesn’t mean the father should leave the whole work for her.
“We are getting it wrong with that mentality,” he said.

The legal practitioner stressed that parents should instill moral teachings in their children and wards for a better future.
He urged parents to stop dodging their responsibility, reiterating that children’s upbringing was for both parents.
