Driver bags one year jail term for breach of trust

An Upper Area Court in Jos on Tuesday sentenced a 40-year-old driver, Ali Abubakar, to one-year imprisonment for breach of trust, cheating, and mischief.

A panel of two Magistrates sentenced Abubakar after he pleaded guilty to the offense.

Mr. Adams Galadima and Malam Ishaq Danjuma gave Abubakar an option to pay a fine of N10,000 each for breach of trust and cheating and another N15,000 for mischief.

They said that the judgment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal acts.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Ijuptil Thawur told the court that the case was reported on Dec.8, 2021, at the Nassarawa Gwong Police station by Auwal Sani, the complainant.

The prosecutor said that the convict was given a vehicle for commercial purpose but instead he converted it to his personal use.

Thawur said that the offense is punishable under the provisions of sections 333, 313, and 297, of the Plateau Penal Code law.
