FCTA in a hurry to develop, add value to lives – Minister

Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has said that the FCT Administration is in a hurry to develop and add value to the lives of residents of the territory.

She said this while inaugurating some projects at the flag-off of an empowerment programme in Abaji Area Council of the Territory

She said the APC-led federal government required the FCT Administration to be in a hurry to add value to the lives of the residents of the territory, especially those in rural communities.

Dr. Aliyu, who commended the chairman of Abaji Area Council for empowering a large numbers citizens of the council through the provision and distribution of motorcycles, provision of speed boats to Kurege, Maniogi, and Alu communities, purchase of irrigation pumping machines to farmers, and the distribution of grinding machines to rural women, among other things, said it was in line with the mandate of the government of the day.

She said that was why the skills development agencies like the Abuja Enterprise Agency have been strengthened. Others, she said are the Youth Centre in Nyanya which has been upgraded to skill acquisition training.

“We have also continued to fund free training for artisans and craftsmen towards building their capacity to innovate and engage the Ease of Doing Business. It is hoped that through this, the agency will energize our youths into fulfilling their full potentials”, she stressed.

Aliyu urged residents of benefiting communities to justify the government’s investment in their communities by ensuring proper maintenance of these projects for the overall development of the areas.
In his remarks, Chairman of Abaji Area Council, Abdulrahman Ajiya, acknowledged the role played by the FCT Minister of State during zero allocation to area councils, stressing that the minister’s efforts contributed to the provision of the empowerment programmes.

Ajiya revealed that as part of efforts to curb social vices in the area council, the administration has empowered about 1,000 youths and women in various skills acquisition, adding that the administration was able to execute these projects with the support of the FCT Administration.

Projects inaugurated include the Abaji Police Area Command office, 0.5km market junction road, 0.45km road along Baba Mai Lema, ongoing 1.2km road, Pipeline Agyana road amongst others.
