A Rivers State High Court has dismissed a suit filed by former Rivers Assembly ‘speaker’, Edison Ehie, against the current speaker, Martin Amaewhule and 25 other lawmakers.
This is following the withdrawal of the suit by Ehie, whose legal counsel, Barr. Marc-Barengo, had informed the court of his client’s decision.
Recall that Amaewhule and the 25 other lawmakers had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ehie then declared the seats of the lawmakers vacant after the defection and filed a lawsuit to that effect.

In a judgment delivered on Thursday, the presiding judge, Justice F. A. Fiberesima, dismissed the suit for lack of merit.
Fiberesima ruled that Amaewhule and 25 other lawmakers are legally empowered to carry out their legislative functions as members of Rivers State House of Assembly.
ThisNigeria reported that Ehie had resigned from his position in a letter dated 29th December, 2023.
