Human Rights crusader and Convener of Recover Nigeria Project charged with the promotion of good government and governance, Comrade Osita Obi and communities in Awka North local government area of Anambra State have urged people of the state to support the second term bid of the state Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo come 2025.
They noted that Soludo has positively touched the lives of people and residents of the state through several projects that hinge on improved well-being and development of all nooks and crannies of 139 communities and 21 local government areas.
Comrade Obi who spoke on Friday shortly after a tour of executed projects and others under execution by Governor Soludo led the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the past two and half years, said that Governor Soludo deserves a second term to allow him to complete the process of good governance and testimonies of positive achievements as evidenced across the three Senatorial districts of the state.
Obi said the process should not stop or be disrupted; Soludo should be given another four years to continue to do the massive work that cut across the nooks and crannies of the state. I have been hearing about the works the governor is doing but today we have seen with our eyes and these are wonderful and marvelous things that are legacy testimonies that will outlive centuries and generations.”
According to Obi, there is a need for the people of the state to give Governor Soludo another four years so he can complete all the laudable programs on ground
He said, “I decided to bring journalists here (tour of project sites) as a private initiative to find out what is happening across the state; sometimes government story is different and citizens story is different. As a private citizen, I decided to come out and see things for myself to communicate to Anambrarians on the true picture of things and I have seen the true pictures.”
“Soludo is fantastic and wonderful and I am concurring now. The only thing I am asking Anambrarians is to give him more four years. Let them not disrupt this process of radical transformation so that he will complete the program on ground,” he stated.
He added that the tour was to celebrate the life of the Anambra State Government and the citizenship of people as well as residents of Anambra state.
Among the projects sites visited during the tour include the six-kilometer Amansea-Awa-Ndukwuenu-Ufuma road; Amansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Ugbeni-Awba-Ofemili road and the ongoing construction site of Amansea-Ifite-Aroma overpass-Ekwueme-Government road, all in Awka North and South LGAs of the state.
Others are the multi-billion new Government House Annex on 23 hectares of land with 2.3 kilometers of road and 2 Kilometer perimeter fence; renovation of Ekwueme Square complex including the state box, conventional seats and entrance gates as well as the Soludo Fun City complex in Awka the state capital.
A community leader of Awba-Ofemili town in Awka North local government area, Mr. Ambrose Nweke commended Governor Soludo for opening the community through massive road infrastructure that has brought the community to the limelight.
According to him, “We thank Soludo for this road (Amansea-Awba-Ofemili road) because road is life and light. Life was terrible before now. You know what road is life and light. The situation before now was terrible. If not for this road, you people would not be able to come here, it was very very impassable. You cannot drive and come here, vehicles cannot drive and come here. We have other towns around us here like Umunumu, Ezeagu in Enugu state, Omor and others that have connections with us.
Also, a former Secretary General of the Awba-Ofemili Community, Mr. Chinaedu Oraeki said he has not seen such an asphalt road project in the area before now. I was born here but it was terrible the condition of the road here but I thank God today for the governor God has given us.”
“This is not done because of our efforts. It is done because of the benevolent nature of the governor and we thank him and he promised us that this road is linking Ayamelum local government which we are in anticipation of. We believe God is going to do it because we did not force him to do this our road. He did it and we know he is going to do the other ones.”
Oraeki pointed out that, “Since the construction of the Awba-Ofemili road, a lot has happened, adding that many land speculators have been coming to get the area. There was a time, if you were standing here it would be hard for you to find commercial motorcyclists and if you saw anyone it would be difficult for you to pass through. But now, if you are standing here within five minutes you will see motor and drive to wherever you want.”
