Reps Intervene in Ijegun Egba and Tank Farms Misunderstanding

The Ijegun Egba residents have lodged a complaint to the House of Representatives as a result of the activities of tank farms within the area.

Hence, the lawmakers have called for peace between the community and tank farms adding the need for operators to stick to safety standards. The Chairman of the House Committee and Ijegun Egba Tank farm host community, Sergius Ogun, stressed the need to address the issues between tank farm owners and residents.

He said that the country would suffer significantly if anything were to happen to the tank farms, about a 35% cut in petroleum products. “The tank farm operators pay tax, so it is going to be a collaboration between the State, Federal, operators and the community. If we all collaborate, the business can live side by side with human beings and that is why we are insisting on safety.”

Also, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources, Olalere Odusote, that the investment of the tank farms are such that they cannot be sent away since their existence is extremely important.

“They have invested about N450 billion, so we cannot wish them away. So we need to find a way to peacefully coexist with the residents of the area. The residents have a right to be there, so we have to find a way for them to coexist,” Odusote said.

Also on hand were Controller-General, Fire Service of Nigeria; Liman Ibrahim, Commissioner for Town Planning and Urban Development, Lagos State; Idris Salako, the Deputy Director, Oil and Gas, Ministry of Environment, Nafiu Akinpelu and the Alahun of Imoore and Apapa Kingdom, Oba Taofik Akeju-Awojo.
