Tinubu congratulates Benin President-elect Wadagni, pledges stronger ties

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Romuald Wadagni on his election as President of the Republic of Benin, pledging stronger bilateral ties.

Wadagni, the country’s Minister of Finance, secured an overwhelming majority of votes in the presidential election held on Sunday.

This is contained in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday in Abuja.

In a letter personally signed by the President, Tinubu said the victory reflected the trust reposed in Wadagni by the Beninese people.

“Your victory reflects the trust the Beninese people have placed in your vision and your distinguished record of service as Minister of Finance,” he said.

Tinubu commended the people of Benin for their resilience and commitment to democratic values during the election process.

He noted that Nigeria and Benin share longstanding historical, cultural and economic ties that continue to strengthen bilateral relations.

“Our two nations share a long history of friendship, cultural ties and mutual cooperation.”

Tinubu expressed readiness to work closely with the incoming administration to deepen cooperation between both countries.

He said such collaboration would enhance regional security and promote economic prosperity within the sub-region.

The president also highlighted the importance of partnerships within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU).

Tinubu wished Wadagni wisdom, strength and success as he prepares to assume office.

He assured the President-elect of Nigeria’s support in advancing shared goals for peace, stability and development.

Wadagni, served as the Minister of Finance under outgoing President Patrice Talon, secured a landslide victory with over 94 per cent of the vote.(NAN
