Facts have now emerged on why coach Stanley Eguma was sacked from his technical manager position by the management of Rivers United.
Eguma, who has been with the team in the past eight years, leading them to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) success in the 2021/2022 season and finished third in the 2022/2023 season but has failed to reproduce that performance this season with the team as they struggle outside a place for club continental football.
A statement on Saturday 1st of June by Charles Mayuku, Media Officer officer of Rivers United seen by ThisNigeria, the management of the club cited the failure of the Eguma led technical crew to meet the objectives and goals of the club.
Following the sack of Eguma on Saturday 1st of June, the club management has appointed coach Evans Ogenyi as the Head Coach in an acting capacity until the end of the 2023/2024 NPFL season.
“The Management of Rivers United FC officially announces the termination of Coach Stanley Eguma’s appointment as Technical Manager of the Club.
“Subsequently, Coach Evans Ogenyi, the club’s Chief Coach, has been appointed in an acting capacity as the Head Coach of the Club until the end of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League Season.
“The decision is in pursuit of a new direction aimed at achieving the objectives and goals of the club.
“However, we convey our gratitude to Coach Eguma for his services to the club and wish him the very best in his future endeavour”, reads the statement.
Coach Eguma has been a significant figure in Rivers United’s history, contributing to numerous successes and memorable moments during his tenure.
Eguma became coach of Dolphins in 2008 before (Dolphins and Sharks were merged) as Rivers United, where he continued as coach in 2016.
