Insecurity: We won’t surrender to terror, Tinubu vows

From Cross Udo, Abuja

President Bola Tinubu has showered encomiums on Nigeria’s security, calling them the nation’s “shield” against terrorism and vowing that the country will not capitulate to violence.

The President, in a statement on his verified X account, praised the courage of the Armed Forces, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Civil Defence, intelligence agencies, and local security formations, who are at the forefront of fighting insurgency and urged citizens to back security efforts with timely information.

“In the forests, on the roads, at forward operating bases, in the air, creeks, and across difficult terrains, you carry the burden of national protection,” Tinubu said, acknowledging the physical and emotional toll of prolonged operations.

He paid special tribute to families who endure long absences and anxious nights, and solemnly honoured those who have paid the supreme price for the nation’s safety.

Tinubu described the fight against terror as “a national duty,” not solely a military task, and called on citizens to report suspicious activity — “When you see something, say something.”

He warned that terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers must not be allowed to define Nigeria’s identity, urging unity across faiths and communities against violent extremism.

The President recognised the sacrifices made across Nigeria’s security architecture and promised that their service would not be forgotten.

“Your courage has remained firm. Your service is acknowledged. Your sacrifice is honoured,” he said, adding a prayer for divine protection over those who protect the country.

Tinubu’s remarks come amid ongoing operations against insurgents and criminal gangs in several regions, where security forces continue to face complex terrain and asymmetric threats.
