Kwara APC elders petition national chairman over primary results

By Cross Udo, Abuja

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have petitioned the party’s national leadership over the alleged unauthorised release of House of Representatives primary election results by the local chairman, Mr James Ajibola.

The stakeholders also passed a vote of no confidence in Ajibola, accusing him and members of his executive committee of disregarding directives from the party’s national body.

In a petition signed by Alhaji Olaiya Mohammed Bello and Chief JB Ayeni on behalf of the Ekiti Elders and Stakeholders Forum, the group described the action as a serious breach of party discipline and procedure.

“Our party’s rules are not suggestions; they are the backbone of our unity,” the petition stated.

“When local leaders act like they are above the party, they replace the democratic process with personal ambition. We will not allow that,” the stakeholders added.

The petitioners alleged that the local leadership released the primary election outcome before any official declaration by organs authorised by the national headquarters.

According to them, the action created confusion among party members, widened divisions within the APC’s state structure, and threatened the party’s credibility.

“This is not merely a procedural lapse — it is an assault on the integrity of the APC. Those responsible must be made to answer,” the elders declared.

They warned that failure to sanction those responsible could weaken party discipline and encourage future violations of established procedures.

“Allowing rogue announcements to stand would tell every local organ that party rules are negotiable. That would be the beginning of our undoing,” the petition added.

The stakeholders called on the National Working Committee to investigate the matter thoroughly and, where necessary, impose appropriate sanctions to restore confidence in the party’s internal democratic process.
